Rev. Melton Arant (“Mel” as he prefers to be called) is an ordained Elder in the South Carolina United Methodist Annual Conference. He has served many different types of congregations over the last 25+ years of ministry, including being the founding pastor of Waters Edge UMC, a new church start in Beaufort, South Carolina.
He has a background in science, and previously worked as an adolescent counselor and a middle school guidance counselor. He is currently the Registrar for the SC UM Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and Assistant Secretary for the SC Annual Conference. He has served as a clergy delegate to the 2016 United Methodist General and Jurisdictional Conferences.
He has been married to Melissa for 25 years. They have a daughter, Alanna (24), who is a student at Southern Wesleyan University. They have a, Trey (21), who serves in the US Air Force and is married to Laura Arant Garcia. Their youngest son, Gill (15) is a student at Pendleton High School.
His parents are Athon and Edith Arant, who have been together 52 years. His father is a United Methodist minister, as is his younger brother, Michael Arant. His younger sister, Amanda Harmon, is a psychologist, and married to a Southern Baptist minister (Billy Harmon).
